Cost $500. and up depending on the breed I have never seen a pet store pup for less than $999.
Registration Papers Yes! Ethical breeders provide registration papers for the pups they produce No! They cannot guarantee the puppy’s parentage
Registration papers are to prove that a dog/puppy is Purebred and shows that animal’s ancestry.

STOP! Before you buy that puppy in the window at the pet store think of all the dogs the SPCA/Humaine Society has for adoption or even check out one of the many Breed Rescue Clubs. Now that is really saving a dog!

What is a reputable breeder?

If you want a puppy to show, love or just “KNOW” what to expect as that puppy grows then visit a breeder near you.

Reputable dog breeders adhere to the guidelines of the CKC/AKC and/or a recognized Breed or All Breed Club. These breeders supply the registration papers for any and all puppies/dogs sold by them. (the CKC and AKC have different requirements of their breeders regarding registration of puppies.*

A good breeder is going to ask you questions about your lifestyle to help determine if it is suitable to that particular breed of dog. For example if you live in a small bachelor apartment and want an Irish Wolfhound it is unlikely that an Irish Wolfhound breeder will place a pup with you. Just not enough room for the dog and you both.

Breeders generally offer support for the life of the dog. They are available to you for all your questions and concerns and can offer you suggestions and hints on dealing with any issues that arise. After all, who knows the breed better than a person who has dealth with all the issues of one particular breed for numerous years.
